Officials from Orange County, the Town and Village of Warwick were on hand July 21 to congratulate the Warwick Community Garden as it celebrated 10 years of successful operation on the grounds of the Warwick Valley Community Center.

Town Supervisor Michael Sweeton, County Legislator Paul Ruskiewicz and Barry Cheney, a county legislator and a Village Board member, were all on hand and presented official Certificates of Appreciation, recognizing the Community Garden members and their years of service to the Warwick community.

Somewhat unusually, the Warwick Community Garden has no beds leased or owned by individual families.

Rather the 30-plus members make all the decision and do all the work as a group, a true garden community.

The produce is shared among the members, with any surplus going to the Ecumenical Food Pantry.

“It’s a pretty simple formula that’s worked well for 10 years," said Sara Werling, one of the Garden organizers, “and we think it will be going strong for many years to come.”
