In his younger years, Stan was a National Champion Lacrosse player at the University of Maryland and worked for many years in the food manufacturing industry as an executive with companies such as Hain Celestial in Moonachie, NJ, as well as CPC/Best Foods, Haagen-Dazs, and Wise Foods. He served his country in the National Guard and was an avid gardener, Civil War & American history buff, hiker, and a long-suffering Jets fan. A family statement reads “Most of all Stan loved his wife, sons, and grandchildren as well as spending time at his lake house.”

He is survived by and will be missed greatly by his wife of over 53 years Karen Zaranski (nee Murphy) and his three sons: Matthew Zaranski and wife Zully of Waldwick, NJ; Adam Zaranski and his wife Lisa of Wayne, NJ; Peter Zaranski and his wife Cara, of Wayne, NJ. Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Zachary, Paul, Katie, Ava, and Declan; and sister Florence Walsh of Timonium, MD. He was predeceased by his brother George P. Zaranski. He was also a favored in-law and uncle to his 2 sisters-in-law, 5 brothers-in-law, and 16 nieces and nephews. He was affectionately referred to as the “sixth Murphy brother.”

While he was named a Baltimore “McCormick Unsung Hero” for the Archbishop Curley HS football team in 1962, he has always been and remains an unsung hero to his family and friends.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 10:00 am at St. Stephen RC Church, 75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick, NY.
