Hugh F. Johnston, a 51-year resident of Warwick, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, after a long battle with cancer, which he fought until the very end.

Hugh was born in the Bronx on Aug. 26, 1942, and was the oldest of four brothers. Hugh married the “girl of his dreams” on Nov. 21, 1964, and they were married for 57 years.

He was a telephone man, working for AT&T for more than 30 years.

Hugh loved to golf. He especially loved playing in his golf league on Thursday nights with his son Bob and managing the ladies league at Scenic Farms Golf Course, where he worked in recent years.

Hugh was a devoted family man, hard worker and friend to all. His love of life and the people in it was evident in the way he greeted his children and grandchildren, each with special emphasis, in his warm and enveloping hugs, in his unwavering smile and his insistence on being the last to leave any party.

He will be missed beyond measure.

Hugh is survived by his wife Maryann Johnston; sons Anthony of East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Robert (Bob) of Florida, N.Y., and his wife, Penny; and Jason, of Fairfax, Va., and his wife Julie; and daughter Katherine (Kate) Wark of Ridgefield, Conn.,, and her husband Jeffrey. He also leaves behind seven adoring grandchildren: Shelby, Anthony, Sydney, Ruby, Maggie, Audrey and Vivienne; his brothers Richard and wife Hilkka-Maija of Somers; Thomas and wife Linda of Ronkonkoma; and James and wife Denise of Ocean View, Del.; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, Hugh F. Johnston, and his mother, Jane Johnston.
