Uncovering the History of Cornwall potters

| 03 Nov 2019 | 07:34

In a town known for its picturesque scenery, river views and delicious restaurants, it is hard to imagine Cornwall as a place that was once a center for potters.

However, this was the case in the nineteenth century when numerous families such as the Machetts, Bells and Mandevilles all produced pottery here.

Their artistic work has since gained national interest and has found its way into numerous museums.

The Cornwall Potters of Orange County will be the topic for the Hudson Valley Bottle Club’s monthly meeting on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m.

Hosting the talk will be local historian and author Chester Faber who has been documenting and collecting Cornwall pottery for the last 50 years.

This free lecture will take place at the Marlboro Presbyterian Church at 51 Grand St., Marlboro. There will be snacks and refreshments available as well as bottles and small antiques for sale.
