2020 Jewish Film Festival to be held drive-in style
The Jewish Federation of Greater Orange County will offer two films for the price of one on Sunday, Oct. 18, at the Fair Oaks Drive-In in Middletown.
The double feature starts at 6:30 p.m. with “Leona,” a moving film that tells the story of a young Jewish woman from the Syrian-Jewish community in Mexico City who is torn between family and forbidden love.
The second film, “Synonyms,” which starts at 8:30 p.m.is the story of a young Israeli, traumatized by his stint in the IDF, who flees to Paris and tries to transform himself into a Frenchman.
Doors open at 5:45 p.m. During a half hour break between films viewers can pick up a pre-paid dinner from Allan’s Falafel and/or buy drinks and snacks from the on-site concession stand.

Create a pumpkin centerpiece at a Zoom workshop
Master Gardener volunteers with Cornell Cooperative Extension Orange County will offer a step-by-step Zoom demonstration on how to craft your own pumpkin centerpiece on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10-11:30 a.m.
Create a showpiece for your Thanksgiving table using succulents, acorns, moss and other natural materials. With proper care, it will last for months. Best part? No carving is required.
Participants can pick up the materials for this project on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Cornell Cooperative in Middletown or at the Armory in Newburgh. Alternate pickup dates are available upon request. Participants will need their own hot glue gun, glue and sharp scissors.
The Zoom session will begin with a demonstration and techniques. Then attendees will work together in small Zoom groups with a volunteer to create their own centerpieces.
