WARWICK — The Rev. Michael Otte received the Backpack Snack Attack “Champion” award at the Backpack Snack Attack Community Benefit Concert held Dec. 3 at the Warwick Reformed Church.
The concert honors donors and volunteers who keep the program alive by feeding hundreds of school children over the weekends throughout the school year.
Special recognition this year went to Otte, the retired pastor of the Warwick Reform Church, who embraced the mission of Backpack Snack Attack from it’s inception, supporting the program and the Advent Concert throughout his ministry in Warwick.
The concert featured the Latin Grammy nominated 3d Rhythm of Life with guest vocalist Chris Alfinez and gospel singer Tiffany T’zelle.
Backpack Snack Attack feeds kids on the weekends during the school year. The average weekly cost per child is $6. Multiplied that by 40 weeks, then multiplied that figure by 300 children and you will arrive at an annual cost of $72,000.
One hundred percent of all donations go to feeding the Backpack Kids.
