Boy Scout Troop 38 advances Scout James Juliano to highest rank of Eagle

WARWICK — On Saturday, June 9, Warwick's Boy Scouts of America Troop 38 advanced James Peter Juliano, the son of Dr. John and Mary Juliano of Warwick, to the rank of Eagle.
The award raised the troop's total of Eagle Scouts to more than 60 since it was first organized.
Troop 38, which meets at the Pine Island firehouse, was chartered by the Warwick Lions Club in 1954.
Troop 38 presented the award at a well attended "Eagle Court of Honor" held in the gymnasium at St. Stephen - St. Edward Elementary School.
Earning the rank of Eagle is a remarkable achievement because less than four percent of all scouts attain this rank, the highest one awarded in scouting.
To achieve the Eagle Rank, scouts are required to complete a minimum of 21 Merit Badges, have leadership roles in and outside of the troop and participate in community service.
Each candidate must also complete a major community service project as the last requirement before attaining the Eagle rank.
As a member of Troop 38, Juliano enjoyed hiking, camping and attending summer camp.
He soon became a Patrol Leader, Troop Instructor and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.
In 2012 Juliano was awarded Troop 38 Rookie of the Year and in 2015 Muzzle Loading Rifle Top Gun.
His Eagle Scout Project was to clear the wooded area behind the Church of St. Stephen, the First Martyr, for outdoor Stations of the Cross.
In addition to scouting, Juliano has also participated in Naturalist Experience Trips to national parks and two medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic.
He recently graduated from John S. Burke Catholic High School and will be attending Merrimack College in Massachusetts, majoring in environmental studies and sustainability.
During the traditional candle lighting ceremony at his Eagle Court, Juliano was joined by his brothers Andrew and Philip, who each had also achieved the rank of Eagle.
