— Warwick Cub Scout Pack 177 celebrated their annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Feb. 22 at the Warwick Middle School.

More than 200 scouts, family, friends and dignitaries were present at this year’s event.

The pot-luck style dinner served to celebrate the many tenets of scouting while recognizing the adult volunteers who help make scouting possible.

The biggest event of the evening was the crossing over ceremony for the oldest boys in the pack. These fifth-graders, known as Webelos, each earned the highest rank possible in Cub Scouts: the Arrow of Light.

Mayor Michael Newhard was on hand to award the Webelos scouts with a certificate of achievement on behalf of the Village of Warwick. In doing so, he also took some time to share his story of being a scout in the very same Pack 177 when he was a boy.

The evening culminated with the parents of the Webelos seeing their boys off to cross over a symbolic bridge.

On the other side of the bridge the boys were welcomed by representatives from Boy Scout Troop 38 and Boy Scout Troop 45.

The evening marked the end of the Webelos scouts journey through Cub Scouts and the beginning of their journey into Boy Scouts.
