Warwick Community Garden prepares for seventh season

WARWICK — The Warwick Community Garden will hold an open meeting to discuss plans for the upcoming 2016 season on Saturday, Feb. 20.

The meeting will be held at the Warwick Valley Community Center at 11 a.m.

All - new and old members and experienced and novice gardeners - are invited.

The Community Garden, started in 2010, differs from many community gardens.

It is not a series of individual plots that community members or families rent and tend on their own.

Rather, it is a true community garden where members decide together what to plant and then contribute about an hour a week throughout the season.

At harvest time, the Garden’s organic produce is divided among the active members, with any excess going to the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry.

Says Sara Werling, one of the Garden’s founders,

“Some come for the great veggies, some to learn from the group’s senior gardeners and still others for the nice feeling of sharing with the Food Pantry," said Sara Werling, one of the founders of the garden. "But it’s the feeling of community that is probably the biggest draw.”

Anyone interested in joining the garden this season should either contact Geoff Howard (howards@warwick.net) or simply come to the meeting.
