— Warwick Valley High School congratulated and celebrated its fall, winter and spring Scholar-Athlete teams for the 2014-15 school year on Tuesday, May 19.

To be considered a Scholar-Athlete Team by the NYSPHSAA (New York State Public High School Athletic Association) Standards, teams must consist of a required number of varsity team members who have a Grade Point Average of 90 or higher in-season.

“Our scholar-athletes have raised the bar throughout the state and represent the finest in scholastic athletics,” said Warwick Valley Athletic Director Greg Sirico.

The 22 Warwick Valley High School teams recognized as NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete teams are:

Individual students were recognized by Dr. David Leach as 2014-15 Superintendent Award Winners, selected by the coaches of the varsity teams (they chose one athlete per team).

These students demonstrated outstanding leadership, had a 90 or better GPA, were significant contributors, great teammates and were dedicated to the success of the team.

The Girls’ Cross Country team had the highest overall average (96.087) of all the district’s varsity teams and was presented with the trophy for the district’s Academic Team of the Year honors.

The 22 teams that qualified for NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete teams represent more than 200 Warwick Valley High School students, who were praised by Leach, Sirico, Warwick Valley High School Principal Dr. Larry Washington and Board of Education President Lynn Lillian for their hard work and dedication on and off the field.
