Warwick student plays in USA Hockey National Championships
MARLBOROUGH, MASS. — Warwick Valley High School junior Charlotte McClanahan competed in the USA Hockey National Championships with her hockey team, the Montclair Blues, last week in Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Her hockey team came in first in league play within the Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey League with a record of 9-1-2.
They then won the league playoff and the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association Championships to earn a spot at the Nationals.
What made this a special run is that the team competes in the under 19 years old division even though only the team goalies are old enough to play at that level.
The rest of the team is comprised of girls between the ages of 15 to 17.
The USA Hockey National Championships was held in Marlborough, Mass., from April 5 through April 9. The teams competing in the national tournament were the district champions from throughout the United States and from as far away as Alaska.
(Charlotte also plays forward for the Warwick/Washingtonville High School Hockey Club.)
At the Hockey Nationals, the Montclair Blues finished with a record of one win and two losses. They won their first game 2-1 against the Lady Bulldogs. They then lost 5-1 against the Nova Ice Dogs and lost their third game, 6-1, against Minnesota Premier Prep, the team ranked number one in the country.
