Greenwood Lake man charged in ShopRite attempted mugging

    WEST MILFORD, N.J. – Police charged a Greenwood Lake, N.Y., man with attempting to snatch a purse in the parking lot of the Marshall Hill Road ShopRite on Feb. 25, police said Tuesday.
    Police charged Robert Owens Jr., 59, of Greenwood Lake, with second-degree attempted robbery in the case.
    According to police, Owens asked an elderly woman for directions to Frank’s Pizza while in the parking lot of the shopping plaza at 9:50 a.m. on Feb. 25.
    While she directed him, police said Owens tried to grab her purse, causing her to fall to the pavement.
    Police said he then fled the lot in a green car with New York tags.
    West Milford Detective Michael Malfetti signed the complaint with the help of Greenwood Lake Police Detective Leanne Gayler.
    Owens was taken to the Passaic County Jail where he awaits hi first hearing in the case, police said.
