PINE ISLAND — On Columbus Day, Monday, Oct. 9, the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce will host and sponsor Pumpkinfest, a family friendly event, especially for kids, at the town park on Kay Road off County Route 1.

The event, a fun filled afternoon of activities, is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost is $5 for participating children.

Pumpkinfest is a great way to celebrate the local harvest of pumpkins and spend the day outdoors enjoying the warm sunshine and crisp fall air. The day features pumpkin painting, face and henna painting, crafts, a children’s bouncy house, games, a fire truck, ambulance, State Trooper, touch-a-tractor, local dance groups, the Orange County Sports Club, Karate Quest, ShopRite, ToysRUs, other organizations and numerous other activities.

Attendees can enjoy food from various vendors and ice cream from Dairy O.

The event is held at the pavilion and fields of Pine Island Town Park where guests may also visit the park’s Butterfly Garden and playground area complete with swings, slides and a play pirate ship.

Pumpkinfest Princess PageantThe chamber also is sponsoring its first annual Pine Island Pumpkinfest Princess Pageant. Is your child bubbly, outgoing and willing to mingle and greet children at Pumpkinfest?

• Send your child’s name, address, phone number, school and community service record to janetzimm3@gmail.com or call 845 258-7008.

• Contestants must be from the Town of Warwick and between 9 and 13 years old.

• The deadline for applying is Oct. 1.

The Pumpkinfest Committee will randomly draw names of five finalists one week prior to Pumpkinfest. Parents of the five girls will be contacted by email. Finalists need to be at Pumpkinfest where we will draw the fourth, third, second and first runner up, and, then, the name of the 2017 Pumpkinfest Princess.
