— Writing on behalf of the members of Nicholas P. Lesando Jr., American Legion, Post 214, Commander Laura Smykla recently sent a message of gratitude to Warwick Boy Scouts Troop 45 Eagle Scout candidate Joshua Koff for his community service project.

Just prior to Memorial Day ceremonies, Koff completed the restoration and beautification of the American Legion podium in Warwick Cemetery, a project that will not only benefit the American Legion but the Town of Warwick and its residents for many years to come.

It was an appropriate choice since his parents, Bobby and Cheryl Koff, taught him and his brother Jeffery to always thank members of active service, the police force, the fire department and veterans for their service to the United States and their communities.

Koff has been a member of the Boy Scouts since he was five years old, when he joined Cub Scouts as a Tiger Cub. Since then, he has risen through the different ranks of scouting, receiving his Arrow of Light for completing Cub Scouts and now working towards his Eagle Scout rank, the highest achievement in scouting.

In addition to the many local businesses that helped him complete this project, Koff also thanked all of the Boy Scouts, adult leader volunteers, his family and neighbors for their many hours of assistance and support of the project.

Additionally, he offered his sincere thanks to the American Legion Post 214 for providing this project as a way to give back to the community.

Smykla reported that Koff especially wanted to thank all the veterans and their families whose dedication and sacrifice allows each of us to enjoy the freedoms of our society, that make this country great.
