Marie Sisti, president of The Warwick Valley Seniors Club, suggests joining and becoming an active member of her organization may have something to do with good health and longevity.

The only requirement for membership in The Warwick Valley Seniors Club is that you must be age 60 or over. But 90th birthday celebrations are common and popular events.

On Wednesday, Aug. 2, that was true for Warwick resident Lydia Amader who was born on Aug. 5, 1927.

In the year Amader was born, the president of the United States was Calvin Coolidge.

At $70,000 per year, Babe Ruth was the highest paid baseball player in history, and Charles Lindberg earned fame and fortune when he became the first pilot to fly a single engine airplane non-stop across the Atlantic from New York to Paris.

Amader and her husband, Jose, a mechanic, who has since died, raised three children. Today she can boast about her five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“My husband provided for us,” said Amader. “I never had to work. God was good to us.”

The celebration, cutting of the cake and everyone singing “Happy Birthday” took place at the Warwick Senior Center, adjacent to the Town Hall on Kings Highway, which first opened in June 2005.

The advantages of membership in The Warwick Valley Seniors Club also includes taking trips together and enjoying entertainment and informative guest speakers.

Anyone interested in joining or wanting additional information should call Marie Sisti at 845-986-9113.
