WARWICK — After a day of heavy rain and a forecast of more stormy weather, the sun shone just in time to celebrate the grand opening of the 2017 Warwick Valley Farmers Market.

On Sunday, May 14, an enthusiastic number of visitors celebrated Mother's Day by coming out to select fresh local farm products on the opening day.

Situated in the South Street Parking lot the market's 36 vendors showcase many of the region's variety of conventional, organic and certified naturally grown produce and fruits.

Mushrooms, chickens, eggs and sausages are also some of the delicacies found at the market every Sunday. And there is even fresh pizza, prepared from scratch and baked on site.

New products this year also include a range of bison and ostrich charcuterie, maple and honey balsamic vinegars, greenhouse grown tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries, new varieties of pickled vegetables and marinated mozzarella, waffles with berries in season and gelato.

"We have tried to create a market that reflects the local community," said Market Manager Penny Steyer. "Too many markets today have the same vendors. But we have gone in a different direction that more closely reflects Warwick. Each farm is multi-dimensional and we are attempting to let each farm or kitchen express more of that diversity."

The market will be open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. until Nov. 19. For additional information visit: www.warwickvalleyfarmersmarket.org.
