PINE ISLAND — The Pine Island Chamber of Commerce has announced 2017 scholarship opportunities of its Black Dirt Scholarship Fund for high school seniors and students attending post-secondary educational schools.

The Black Dirt Scholarship Fund awards three annual scholarships of $1,500 each to students who have demonstrated a commitment to and involvement in community volunteer service or community work experience.

Scholarships will be awarded to those applicants who have chosen to pursue careers in one of three categories:

• Agricultural/Equestrian studies;

• Culinary Arts/Hospitality Industry; and

• Any other declared college major.

Applicants must be a resident of the Town of Warwick and either a high school senior who will graduate in June 2017, or a student at any stage of a post-secondary education at an accredited educational facility.

Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to and involvement in community volunteer service or community work experience. They must be in good academic standing and show evidence of having achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 (or equivalent). Previous applicants may re-apply for consideration.

• The deadline for submission is April 24.

The scholarships are sponsored by the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce and are funded with a portion of the proceeds from the annual Black Dirt Feast.
