GREENWOOD LAKE — For the past 40 years Holly Tree Services, located at 32 Chestnut St. in the Village of Greenwood Lake, has been providing residents throughout the area with complete insect and disease diagnosis, deep root fertilization, pest management, micro-injection, pruning, support cabling, tree removal and stump grinding.
Although the company has all of the necessary equipment and experience to perform even the most dangerous tree removals safely, owner Don Weiss said, "but we specialize in saving trees."
Holly Tree Service, Inc. offers certified and fully licensed arborists who serve private residents, business owners and municipalities throughout Orange County.
Weiss had originally learned his trade working for a New Jersey tree service for seven years before starting his own business in 1978.
He began that venture from his home, at that time, in Greenwood Lake, and two years later moved the business to its current commercial location on Chestnut Street just behind Cumberland Farms and across from the Elks Lodge.
Holly Tree Service had been a member of the International School of Arborculture (ISA). And the professional organization offered an educational program through which Weiss became a Certified Arborist.
He is also licensed in both New York and New Jersey as a Pesticide Applicator.
In addition to his business, Weiss owns and lives on a working farm in Warwick with his wife, Linda.
His office also has a wall featuring testimonials and awards for his community service.
Holly Tree Service, for example, donated the labor to Greenwood Lake for the trees planted along Windermere Avenue, delivered and operated the aquatic weed harvester and assisted the Village of Warwick Shade Tree Commission.
