WARWICK — Warwick Valley High School is proud to recognize senior Dennis VanDunk as this week's Bill Garcia Agency Allstate "Student–Athlete of the Week."
Dennis was second in the long jump and third in both the triple jump and high jump, scoring 20 points for the Warwick Boys Indoor Track Team on its way to the Orange County title.
Dennis was third in the state in the Pentathlon this past spring and is currently ranked fourth in the country in the event heading into this year'’ season.
"We anticipate Dennis qualifying for the state meet on March 4 in both the Long Jump and the High Jump," Athletic Director Gregory Sirico said in his press release announcing the selection.
Dennis is an outstanding student, earning a 99.5 weighted Grade Point Average his junior year. He is currently ranked 39th in class of 367. His course load includes AP government, AP art history and AP literature for college credit. He is also enrolled in the SUNY Orange Algebra and Trigonometry course.
He also is a member of Meister’s Chorus.
Dennis plans to be a physician’s assistant and has applied to Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Hofstra University.
He is the son of Ellen and Dennis VanDunk of Warwick. He has two younger sisters - Sophie (8th grade) and Olivia (7th grade) - who attend the Warwick Middle School.
