Warwick shelter commemorates Homeless Animals Day
WARWICK — The Warwick Valley Humane Society invites members of the community to join them in a candlelight vigil to observe International Homeless Animals Day on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 8:30 p.m. at Railroad Avenue.
This candlelight vigil is an effort to bring attention to the tragic situation of dog and cat overpopulation. The overpopulation crisis condemns millions of companion animals to death every year in our animal shelters across the country.
"We, as a nation of people who pride ourselves on caring for the less fortunate, need to educate our communities on the importance of spaying and neutering pets," said a release from the Warwick Valley Humane Society.
Participants will light candles in memory of dogs and cats euthanized throughout the country because there were no homes for them.
Candles will be provided to vigil participants.
