MIDDLETOWN - The Scott Reeves Jazz Orchestra is coming to Orange County Community College on Friday, Oct. 19.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the William and Helen Richards Theatre at Orange Hall, located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview avenues.
The ensemble has a full big band sound thanks to its instrumentation: four trumpets, four trombones, five saxes, acoustic bass, piano, drums, featured vocalist, Carolyn Leonhart, and leader Reeves, whose instruments are trombone and alto flugelhorn.
For jazz enthusiasts, this is the real deal – an 18-piece big band of seasoned musicians who love what they do.
In addition to being a composer, arranger, and professor of music and director of jazz studies at CCNY, Scott Reeves, is a member of the Dave Liebman Big Band and has played with the Bill Mobley Smoke Big Band, the Vanguard Orchestra, the Chico O’Farrill Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra, and Oliver Lake Big Band.
He also leads Manhattan Bones, a septet that highlights four trombonists.
Somehow, he has found time to write two textbooks, both published by Prentice-Hall: Creative Jazz Improvisation and Creative Beginnings.
Tickets for the concert are $10 and will be available in the box office starting at 6:15 p.m. the evening of the Oct. 19.
Online purchases, with a $ 2.50 service charge for each ticket, are available at www.sunyorange.edu/arts_comm/ticketing.shtml.
All students are admitted free.
