WARWICK — The town of Warwick will welcome thousands of visitors to the 26th annual Applefest on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The festival will host hundreds of craft and food vendors, free live stage performances, and rides and amusements for children.

A traditional feature of the festival is the annual apple pie baking contest, open to all, in celebration of the bountiful apple harvest in our area.

Essential information

Entries will be judged in two categories:

Junior division for bakers age 16 and under; and

Senior division for those age 17 and older.

Entrants must attach a 3-inch by 5-inch index card to their baked pie, including their name and phone number, Junior or Senior division, type of apple used and the recipe ingredients.

No pre-registration is needed.

Apple pies should be dropped off on the day of Applefest, between 8 to 11:30 a.m. at 2 Bank St., off Main Street.

When judging is completed at approximately 1 p.m., pies will be sold by the slice.

Proceeds from sales will benefit the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry.

For general information on pie baking or cooking with apples, contact the Cornell Cooperative Extension in Middletown at 845-344-1234.
