— Five years ago, paddling across Greenwood Lake from Breezy Point, Micki (Michelle) Lees had one boat after another slowing down to ask her what she was standing on.

This started a new venture that would soon be called Jersey Paddle Boards.

On Friday, Aug. 8, Town of Warwick Deputy Supervisor James Gerstner and Greenwood Lake Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Sweeney joined Micki and Al Lees and members of their family, staff and friends for the official grand opening of Jersey Paddle Boards.

The family-owned, full service paddle board and kayak rental firm is located at the Willow Point Marina, 622 Jersey Ave.

Coming from the Village of Greenwood Lake, the entrance to the shop and launching area is just before the Breezy Point Restaurant and at the bottom of the hill.

Stand up paddle boarding
"Being very involved in the paddling community," said Lees, "it became clear that stand up paddle (SUP) boarding needed to be introduced to our area. My husband, Al, and our two children combined our long relationship with surfing and stand up paddle boarding, into an amazing shop with the best staff, to ensure a safe and fun day."

Lees explained that their equipment ensures that first timers will "get it" and see that it's easier than it looks.

"Our boards are incredibly stable," she said, "and made for first time paddlers, while challenging enough for SUP Yoga. We take great pride in what we do, and have ensured that our customers receive only the best service. Our staff is accredited and certified."

Micki Lees holds WPA (World Paddle Association), Level 1 and 2 Paddle Fit, and boating safety certificates.

Yoga instructor Dee Schmitz also holds WPA, Bliss Paddle Yoga and Starboard Yoga Ambassador designations. Assistant Manager Courtney Tracy holds lifeguard and CPR certifications.

Jersey Paddle Boards offers paddle board and kayak sales as well as rental on Greenwood Lake or other locations.

Every Thursday is "Ladies Night" and there are also monthly full moon paddles, yoga lessons, parties and events.

There is also a BBQ grill and a sand beach, so guests can enjoy an easier and safer launch site.

A part of the community

Jersey Paddle Boards has donated gift certificates to many fund raisers in the area such as the St. Anthony Community Hospital annual June Tent Party.

"We are happy at being named a positive addition to Greenwood Lake and the surrounding area," said Lees.
