WARWICK — The Warwick Town Board has again officially proclaimed August as "Backpack Snack Attack Back to School Month."

Backpack Snack Attack is a non-profit organization that provides nutritional snacks to more than 300 needy children each week of the school year.

Donations
The program is run entirely by a group of volunteers and supported by donations and fund raising.

During August businesses throughout the town will be collecting donations from their customers. This is occurring in several ways.

Restaurants, for example, will use envelopes with information about the program and fund raiser that will accompany a patron's check at the end of the meal.

Banks, delis, bakeries and various other types of businesses are using coin drop containers that have been decorated with the necessary information. These coin containers will be kept on the counters of the businesses by their registers.

Other approaches

There are several other businesses doing some unique things.

Last year, for example, Sunny's Nail Studio was a huge supporter of Back to School Month and accounted for almost 20 per cent of the $5,700 raised.

The Dautaj has a regular customer who will match any funds collected at the restaurant.

Back Pack Snack Attack volunteer Len Singer also reported that the Backpack organization had also been selected by Leo Kaytes Ford as the non for profit charity that will receive the proceeds from their Drive 4 UR Community Fund raiser this August.

"During the month of August we receive $50 for every test drive," he said. "And they are also conducting a fund raiser Lady's Night to benefit Backpack."

Essential information

One hundred per cent of all donations to the program are used to purchase food and backpacks.
