WARWICK — On Tuesday, July 22, Town of Warwick Deputy Supervisor James Gerstner, Mayor Michael Newhard and members of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce joined owner Michele Schiffrin, her family and staff for the official grand opening of her new Subway Sandwich shop in the Fairgrounds Shopping Center at 148 Route 94 South in Warwick.

The Subway restaurant chain is the largest submarine sandwich chain in the world, famous for its made-to-order foot-long and six-inch submarine sandwiches, which are served on a variety of breads that are baked fresh in each restaurant throughout the day. Customers create their own hot or cold sandwiches by choosing from a variety of meats, fresh vegetables, cheeses and condiments, while viewing the sandwich being assembled right in front of them.

This is Schiffrin's second Subway shop.

She originally owned the Greenwood Lake store, which she opened in 2004 and sold in 2010. Prior to that, she was a food service helper and then assistant cook for 12 years at Warwick Valley High School.

Michele and her husband, Paul, have been Warwick residents for 28 years. They raised two daughters and are now the proud grandparents of four grandchildren.

"I have always looked forward to opening a Subway in Warwick and now that has happened," said Schiffrin. "Since we have opened I have seen many familiar faces and enjoy meeting new customers everyday."

Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
