— The New York Wind Symphony will hold its debut performance at legendary Carnegie Hall on Monday, June 9.

Before that, the group will perform dance music from around the world as part of the Village of Warwick's Summer Concert Series on Saturday, June 7.

The Wind Symphony, led by award-winning conductor, Richard F. Regan, is comprised of more than 50 of the region’s finest symphonic winds and percussionists with a special affinity for wind band music. Founded in 1989 by John P. Lynch, it began with a mission to present the finest repertoire to the community, and in doing just that, has further become a major source of inspiration and opportunity for many young musicians and vocalists in the area with programs such as “Play with the Pros” and the “NYWS Honors Chorus”.

The Carnegie Hall concert helps launch a full 2014-2015 season for the New York Wind Symphony. It is truly a milestone year, as the NYWS moves back into its home at the state-of-the-art Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center this September, where it will begin a year-long celebration of its 25th year.

For their Carnegie Hall debut, the NYWS has chosen to perform the fantastical "Through the Looking Glass" by prolific, young, American composer, Jess Turner. The piece will be followed by UFO Concerto for Euphonium and Wind Orchestra, written by world-renowned Dutch composer and conductor, Johan de Meij, who just last year, conducted the North American premiere of his Symphony of Songs with the NYWS. The UFO Concerto will feature euphonium virtuoso, SFC Jason Ham, from the West Point Band. Then, the popular Danzón No. 2, by Arturo Márquez, will bring an evening of beautiful and contrasting classical pieces to a close.
