Amy's Kitchen may come to Goshen
Maker of organic frozen vegetarian meals would bring nearly 700 jobs to town

GOSHEN — Nothing has been confirmed — but Town Supervisor Doug Bloomfield is “very optimistic” that Amy’s Kitchen will come to Goshen.
The large-scale natural and organic food company is interested in a 225-acre parcel in the town to construct a building — possibly two — to operate their food business.
Amy’s Kitchen is acclaimed for producing ready-to-eat and frozen meals using fresh organic vegetables, high quality pastas, beans and hormone free dairy from pasture raised cows.
Amy’s Kitchen is privately owned by Rachel and Andy Berliner, who started the company in 1987 when their daughter Amy was born. It’s been a family run enterprise ever since, with Amy now a significant part of the business.
Pitching in and helping is a family trait. Andy’s mom, Clarice, purchased one of the first pieces of equipment for Amy’s, allowing the business to grow. Eleanor Goodman, Rachel’s mom, also supported the growth of this young business by financing one of the first packaging machines. Eleanor currently works as chief copywriter for the company.
“A lot of ancillary businesses will be needed to support this company,” said the supervisor, noting the number of farms in and around Goshen. Amy’s products are available in major supermarkets like Shop Rite, Hanaford’s, and Price Chopper.
The projected $95 million project will offer about 681 jobs. In February, the Industrial Development Agency approved giving Amy’s Kitchen $500,000 for infrastructure and roadways.
Amy’s Kitchen major food manufacturing plant is based in Petaluma, California.
