A high voltage power line exploded earlier this month and fell to the ground on Ten Eyck Avenue in Greenwood Lake, setting fire to the asphalt road. Greenwood Lake Fire Department responded, blocking off the avenue in both directions. Firefighters stood by to protect cars and houses. A lady left her house crossing the street just minutes before the line came down. Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc., crews turned off the power and repaired the line. Homes on Ten Eyck were without power for three hours. Some basements that were flooded when their electric pumps went out. GWL firefighter hoses down the asphalt after power was turned off that had gotten to a boiling temperature. Ten Eyck Avenue was closed Saturday for through traffic because of the damage to the road that was caused by the burning power line.
