— Senior Matt Weaver has been named Warwick Valley High School’s first “Student–Athlete of the Week” for the 2012–13 school year under the program supported locally by the Bill Garcia Allstate Insurance Agency.

The senior running back and defensive back leads Section 9 with 477 rushing yards and seven touchdowns in only two games.

Matt was a key factor in the Wildcats’ 28–27 victory over NFA and then the 49–20 victory over Goshen.

The wins put the Wildcats at 2-0 for the year.

Matt is a well rounded young man who excels on the athletic fields. He is involved in technical studies through Orange Ulster BOCES, with a concentration in auto mechanics.

As a top football recruit in the area, Matt has rededicated himself to achievement in the classroom. He spends a lot of time on his fitness level and is an intelligent young man with a super attitude.

Matt Weaver is the son of Lisa and Mark Weaver of Warwick. His brother Mark was an outstanding athlete at Warwick and is studying at Ramapo College. His sister Melissa, a sophomore, is one of Warwick’s top volleyball players.

The student-athlete of the week feature and photo are provided by Warwick Valley Athletic Director Gregory Sirico.
